The hotel facilities are very nice the hotel has a very varied breakfast , the rooms need a remodeling. But because of the conditions the country can understand, beware you can only pay in dollars at the hotel cash in the evenings the light goes out.

Lovely garden and pool, kind and extremely helpful staff.

I loved the garden and the pool of the hotel. This is the highlight of the property. It's a great place to relax after a day of visiting temples. The hotel is also on the main road to the temples and palace. Several good restaurants are in close proximity.

The Hotel Umbra was a lovely hotel to stay at and we could really recommend it for a visit.

Lovely hotel and yes it did exceed our expectations. The pool was inviting and the grounds are well kept and pleasurable. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The e-bikes were excellent and were easily arranged by the hotel staff.

We liked everything and couldn't find fault at all.

Unique Vacation

We were there in April, and it is HOT! So we enjoyed returning to our A/C room, usually after a cup of coffee, iced coffee, or tea, etc, by noon (in Bagan you will have to take off shoes and socks to enter temples. The ground at some places will be almost too hot to walk on, so we stopped sightseeing by Noon). There are two gorgeous swimming pools to choose from, or the on site Spa. Umbra Bagan also has a huge landscaped garden that makes for an enjoyable walk. For getting around town, the hotel can introduce you to Mr. Ko, an employee at the hotel who is also a Tuk-tuk driver. When he is working, his wife will do the driving. Not only does she know the places to go to, but she is great with your camera and suggests scenes you may have not thought of. My wife and I, being elderly (60's/70's), got the pleasure of their 3 year old tagging along our last day. Not bashful or shy. What a blast that turned out to be. The ebike is a popular means of getting around in Bagan, that we passed on. Our other transportation was a horse drawn, two-wheeled 'wagon'. The hotel can also contact Rambo (actually, that's the horse's name), for that adventure. Overall, the staff will do anything to make your stay enjoyable. The outside restaurant had entertainment every night . . , either a singer, or some young ladies performing traditional dances, etc. Great food, so we never tried anywhere else! Total enjoyment.

An oasis, a paradise, stay here!

The best hotel that I have stayed in in Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam or Cambodia. It is an idyllic paradise, nothing could be faulted. Rooms were large as were bathrooms, situated in nicelocks set amongst beautiful grounds. There are two beautiful swimming pools, one which borders the evening restaurant where a quality, local show was staged each night. The breakfast restaurant feted a wide range of quality food and drinks. Tours could be arranged but we opted to use a driver and car supplied for only $30 for the whole day and were taken to all of the places of interest. The restaurant offered local and international dishes, slightly higher than outside restaurants and priced in USD but the quality, service and location more than compensated. If you wanted local eateries there are two within 100 yards outside to the left. I cannot rate this hotel highly enough, it is a little paradise, an oasis, I wish I could have stayed longer, I loved it!

Well-appointed room. Nice food

The behaviour of the staff at the time of check in was abysmal. They insisted that we pay the full price in cash and in USD. This is in spite of the booking clearly says that they accept credit cards. We had a 9 month old baby with us and they refused to allocate a room until we pay in USD in cash. Apparently, this is due to the difference in exchange rate between black market and official rate. A poor practice with this kind of hotels. Not worth listing with Booking.com

Great location and pool but horrible (standard) rooms

Location & Swimming pool The location was great. We rented e-bikes and could visit the pagodas/temples in two days with swimming pool breaks during lunch time. The swimming pool was great, infinity pool with views to a pagoda in the hote grounds that is lighted at night.

Rooms & Staff Room wasn’t what we expected for such a high-standard hotel. It had the minimum required decor and confort. It reminded me of a motel room. We got the standard room hoping to find something in line with the pictures we had seen of the hotel but it wasn’t that at all. Only one towel per person, white hospital lights in the ceiling, no bedside lights, small space, crowded with standard wood furniture and very dark (we could never open the windows because they looked straight to a busy walking path). We asked the staff to be upgraded to the better bedrooms and pay for it but they offered a very high rate for it. Higher than the one offered by Booking.com. I felt very disappointed with the way they managed the problem (basically not giving any solution)

Pool was excellent after long hot days in Old Bagan.Breakfast Buffett was everything you need and evening dance show was good over dinner on terrace. Street food bbq next door was sampled (also good) and I chose to use tuktuk to get around rather than hire electric bike.Had basic level room which lacked view of beautiful gardens but was everything I needed.

Se loved our stay in Umbra Hotel If you to Bagan this is really a great option! It’s in Old Bagan and has its own temple inside The rooms and facilities are very good and food and restaurants are very good also! The staff is super friendly and kind!!

That they don’t accept credit or debit cards and we stayed a week so it is difficult to carry or get that much cash to pay And when we tried to pay in euros they did not accept them and when they finally agreed to take them they gave us a rate -40% of market value If you go take enough USD that’s the easiest and cheapest way to pay
